The proposed logo is designed to represent the community that GOV has built itself around. The colours come from the progress pride flag to show the diversity and vibrancy of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Ottawa. The ring is made up of maple leaves to represent GOV’s location in the national capital region and each maple leaf has a volleyball cutout to ensure people connect the logo to GOV’s volleyball activities. The circle is the foundational form of the logo and is an important symbol representing unity, community, and perpetuity. The negative space in the circle alludes to a volleyball and helps to create a large letter “O” for Ottawa.

This logo depicts GOV’s core:

  • Diversity and Inclusion - I want it to be easily recognized by anyone as we wave our COLORS as an LGBTQ community. The circle surrounding the ball symbolizes the world, we don’t just exist in a certain part of the earth but we are all over the globe. The three people inside the circle means the men, women, and LGBTQ community joining forces as one promoting camaraderie and unity all over the world. The colors of the LGBTQ flag not only mean our community but also all the different colors/race is included as we are hugely diverse.

  • Our beloved sport - we may have new ball designs nowadays but this particular design is the pillar of our beloved sport. The 3 people inside the circle are the volleyball players (Blocker/Setter, Receiver/Digger, and Spiker). The buildings on the side symbolize the speed of the ball when spiked.

  • Sense of Community - There’s so much Ottawa can offer, amazing places that we could definitely enjoy. I tried my best to include the spectacular buildings of Ottawa and combined them (also forming the speed of the ball).

To sum it up, Ottawa as a city binds not only a certain group of people but everyone is welcome to be a part of the community, any race, color, gender, and religion are together as one experiencing the class and security that the city can offer. Volleyball has been a huge part of this community and our group envisions broadening our ever-growing family the Gay Ottawa Volleyball to inspire people to strive for the best, play hard and achieve their goal, to be a champion...

The proposed logo mends together many aspects of what GOV represents, not only as an organization, but as a community.

On the left half of the logo, an adaptation of the progress pride flag is depicted within the outline of the maple leaf. These colours, each holding a different meaning, represent an important value of the LGBTQ+ community. The maple leaf, as depicted on Canada’s flag, is an internationally recognized symbol for our great country. Whether we were born here or have chosen Canada as our home, this is part of who we are.

On the right half of the logo there is a volleyball, representing the sport that brings us together year-round. The volleyball is bound to the parliament's Peace Tower, a nod to the National Capital Region.

This logo is one we can be proud to represent in our city, across the country and even around the world.
