Hi! I’m Denis Bégin (he/him) and I am excited to be running for the PCV board of directors again this year. In the last two years, our organization and extraordinary team of over thirty volunteers have done so much, we’ve developed policies to align our organization with provincial law, we’ve changed our name to reflect the diversity of our community, built out governance to support a shared vision for the future and so much more!
But there is more to do! I hope to support our leadership team in building capacity in our leagues and tournaments, work to keep fees low while achieving our long-term financial goals and driving diversity and inclusion across our organization to build a strong and welcoming sport community. Please join me at our Annual General Meeting this year where I hope to earn your vote.

My name is Jonathan, and I would like to express my interest in joining the volunteer Board of Directors for Pride Capital Volleyball (PVC). With my previous volunteer experience, passion for helping others, and desire to make a positive impact in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I strongly believe I would be a valuable addition to your team.
To give you some context about myself, I was born and raised in Montreal in a Sino-Mauritian household. While my family has always supported me in my endeavors, culturally, being gay has often been stigmatized. Like many others in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I faced challenges with my self-identity growing up. As a Canadian of Chinese descent with an African background, I struggled to connect with others, and the need to hide my sexual orientation added further complexity to my experience.
Ultimately, it was through my extracurricular activities that I found friends who accepted and supported me, and who made me feel welcome. This is a sentiment that everyone should have the opportunity to experience. Today, I am deeply grateful for the ability to freely express myself, and this is one of the reasons I am so motivated to become a PVC director. I strongly resonate with PVC’s mission and would love to contribute to advancing its vision.
I bring valuable experience from my time as a member of the Women in Engineering (WIE) Association at Concordia University. I began as Director General and later served as VP of Social and Academic Affairs. One of the primary goals of WIE was to foster an inclusive environment and promote diversity within the engineering community—a mission that aligns closely with PVC's values. My responsibilities included coordinating community outreach programs, organizing events, and voting on important decisions. Additionally, I served for two years on the St. Thomas Governing Board for the Lester B. Pearson School Board, where I further honed my skills in communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and strategic planning.
Since moving to Ottawa, I’ve had the pleasure of engaging with PVC, which has offered me the incredible opportunity to meet new people, get involved in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and continue playing a sport I love. I would be honored to help pass along this experience to others and support our growing community.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to the possibility of contributing to PVC’s continued success.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Chung Tze Cheong
D Girard

Hi! I’m D Girard (they/them) and I am excited to be running for the PCV board of directors for the first time this year. In the last few years, PCV has done a fantastic job of expanding programing and providing more opportunities to play volleyball. I hope to join the board in order to support our leadership team to promote inclusion across our organization both in the level of play and in the diversity of our membership to build a strong and lasting community. I hope to do this by ensuring lowest possible cost for participation in programing by maintaining strong fiscal oversight and to do everything we can to empower our members and volunteers to provide fun and inclusive programing. Please join me at our Annual General Meeting this year where I hope to earn your vote.

Hey folks! Two years ago, I was elected to the board along with my team One GOV and we have achieved a lot. We have been able to deliver stability to our leadership structure as well as update our policies, change our name to be more inclusive and plan strategic goals that will continue to allow PCV to grow and meet the needs of our playership for years to come.
I am so stoked to be running again to continue the work we’ve been doing. This means keeping programming costs low, ensuring strong fiscal oversight and empowering our executive team to do their roles successfully. I hope to earn your vote once again at this year’s AGM!
Vanessa Sigurdson
she/her
My name is Vanessa Sigurdson, my pronouns are she/her, and I am excited to announce my nomination for the PCV Board of Directors.
Having been an active participant for the past three years and recently stepping into a volunteer role, I have witnessed firsthand the sense of community, inclusivity, and joy that PCV fosters. PCV and its members have been incredibly welcoming to me and this has inspired me to give back by contributing my skills and passion at the board level to support the organization’s mission.
PCV has been around for decades and its evolution has been remarkable. As a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, I was particularly happy to see the change of our name. This was a great step forward and I hope to contribute to the continued progress and growth of PCV by bringing fresh ideas to the table.
I am committed to creating welcoming spaces for all individuals. I am particularly interested in advancing initiatives that ensure the organization remains accessible to newcomers, while keeping fees low, nurtures a supportive and encouraging environment among its members, and prioritizes volleyball education to enhance both engagement and skill development.
I look forward to seeing you all at AGM and earning your vote!
Thank you,
Vanessa

I am writing to express my sincere interest in joining the Board of Directors for PCV. With a deep commitment to both the sport of volleyball and to fostering inclusive, supportive communities, I believe I can make a valuable contribution to your organization’s mission and growth. I'm an honest hard-working professional looking to give back to my community.
Having been involved in volleyball for 2 years as a player, I have witnessed firsthand the power of sports to promote teamwork, resilience, and personal development. Volleyball has been an important part of my life, teaching me valuable life lessons, and I am eager to help ensure that these same opportunities are accessible to all individuals, regardless of their background or identity.
As someone who is passionate about diversity and inclusion, I am particularly committed to creating spaces where everyone—especially LGBTQ+ individuals—can feel safe, supported, and empowered to participate in the sport.
I am particularly interested in supporting the program's efforts to possibly expand youth engagement or improve access to sport. I believe that by focusing on the rebranding of PCV (from GOV), we can broaden the program’s impact and reach even more individuals who can benefit from the discipline and camaraderie that volleyball provides.
I am deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for all participants. I understand the importance of creating a culture where athletes, coaches, and volunteers feel valued and empowered, and I would be honored to contribute to this mission.
Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the Board and help guide PCV in its next chapter of growth. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information.
Sincerely,
Lise-Anne Verdon
