Organization: Pride Capital Volleyball (PCV)

Position Type: Part-time, Hourly

Hours: Approximately 5 hours per week (average 3–5 hours/week) The president will be paid according to a 5 hour per week schedule, but actual hours worked will vary across the year and could be more or less in any given week. The president is responsible for their duties irrespective of hours worked.

Compensation: $23.40 per hour

Reports to: Board of Directors

Location: Ottawa, Ontario (Hybrid / Remote with attendance at key meetings and events)

About Pride Capital Volleyball

Pride Capital Volleyball (PCV) is a community-driven, non-profit sports organization dedicated to providing inclusive, safe, and engaging volleyball programming for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and allies across the National Capital Region.

Role Overview

The President serves as PCV’s operational leader and chief administrative bridge between the Board of Directors and the operational leadership team. Working under the governance and strategic direction of the Board, the President oversees day-to-day operations, coordinates cross-functional portfolios, manages key personnel, and ensures the organization operates efficiently, ethically, and sustainably.

This is a paid operational role suited for an organized, community-minded leader with strong people management skills and a commitment to inclusive recreational sports.

Key Responsibilities

1. Organizational Leadership & Operational Management

  • Lead and coordinate the PCV Leadership Team, fostering collaboration across Operations, Administration, Finance, Events, and Tournaments.

  • Oversee day-to-day league operations, resolving operational bottlenecks and ensuring seamless program delivery.

  • Act as the direct supervisor and primary manager for the paid part-time PCV Administrator.

  • Appoint operational coordinators and other non-executive volunteer positions, supporting volunteer onboarding and retention.

2. Board Liaison & Strategic Execution

  • Translate Board-approved strategic goals and priorities into actionable operational plans.

  • Act as the primary conduit between the Board of Directors and operational teams, facilitating clear, two-way communication.

  • Provide regular, timely reports and briefings to the Board regarding league activities, risks, and performance.

  • Ensure decisions, policies, and directives established by the Board are carried out promptly and effectively.

3. Financial Oversight & Legal Compliance

  • Manage operational expenditures within the annual budget approved by the Board.

  • Track operational spending and serve as the default second approval for payments and financial transactions.

  • Enter into operational and service agreements on behalf of PCV within delegated authority levels.

  • Ensure all PCV activities, programs, and member interactions comply with applicable laws, non-profit obligations, and PCV bylaws and policies.

4. Representation & Member Relations

  • Act as the primary organizational spokesperson for PCV with members, community partners, media, and the public.

  • Preside over Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and special member meetings.

  • Champion PCV’s values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and sportsmanship across all touchpoints.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Leadership & Team Management: Demonstrated experience leading volunteer or operational teams within non-profit, community, or sports organizations.

  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to coordinate concurrent priorities, track budgets, and manage small teams independently within limited hours.

  • Communication & Facilitation: Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience running meetings and presenting to boards or community groups.

  • Financial Literacy: Comfort reading budgets, understanding financial workflows, and reviewing payment authorizations or a willingness to learn.

  • Community Connection: Understanding of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Ottawa and a passion for sports communities.

  • Responsibilities as per PCV Policy on Roles and Responsibilities

    • Manage PCV’s day-to-day operations, including appointing coordinators and other non-executive volunteers.

    • Execute PCV’s strategic plans and direction.

    • Act as the primary liaison between the Board and PCV’s management team.

    • Provide timely advise and information on PCV operations to the Board.

    • Ensure that Board decisions are carried out effectively and in a timely manner.

    • Expend PCV funds within the annual budget and subject to Board decisions.

    • Act as PCV’s primary spokesperson to the membership, media and public.

    • Ensure PCV’s activities are conducted legally, ethically and aligned with PCV policies.

    • Enter into contractual agreements on behalf of PCV.

    • Preside at member meetings.

  • Managing PCV’s day-to-day operations includes things like:

    • Acting as the Leader of the Organization, pulling together the Leadership Team, checking in across Operations, Administration, Finance, Event and Tournaments.

      • The Events and Tournaments Departments are portfolio’s under the President, so the President is more involved in these areas specifically.

    • Tracking budget progress, acting as the default second approval on financial payments.

    • Supporting recruitment for vacant volunteer roles.

    • Acting as the primary manager for the PCV Administrator, a paid part-time position.
